Serving others can take a toll.

One of the main groups of people we want to serve through our practice are pastors and people who work in ministry or Christian leadership roles. Being a leader can often be a lonely calling.

It can be a challenge for people in pastoral or ministry roles to have outlets where they can be fully open with others in their own communities. But pastors and ministry leaders face problems in life and relationships just like anyone else.

Therefore, we seek to create a safe place where pastors and ministry leaders are able to be fully open about the real struggles they are facing so that they can be cared for in their own journey and growth. Leaders in the church or other ministries do so much caring for other people, but they need to have a space to be cared for as well.

A safe place to share and reflect.

Sometimes just having a completely safe space in which to be fully honest and open is a big part of the healing process. We desire to walk alongside individuals and couples who serve in ministry to help them in their next steps of growth and healing.

Many of Sheltering Oaks clients come from Protestant, Evangelical, and Catholic backgrounds. One of our passions is integrating Christian spirituality, Scripture, mental health research, and interventions to help people and relationships find greater wholeness.

Change in counseling often comes through the client’s own experience of purposeful processing and reflection. We see our role as working alongside the client to help guide them so that they experience the change and transformation they need.

Using empathetic listening, curious questions, and a variety of therapeutic skills and techniques, we journey with people in this important process.

Get the care you need.

If you are a pastor or a Christian ministry leader and you find yourself in need of care, you are worth it! You may have a personal struggle in your own life, faith, or relationship with God. Perhaps you are dealing with relational difficulties in your marriage or family life.

Maybe you are having obstacles or dealing with distressing circumstances within your church or ministry, and you do not feel like you can be fully open and honest with anyone.

There may be any number of reasons like these that can make you feel you are in need of care and a place that is set apart for you. Do not hesitate to show yourself the same care and concern that you show to others whom you spend so much time caring for every week.

Find relief and renewal.

Sometimes in ministry, it is easy to forget that when Jesus said to “Love your neighbor as you love yourself” there is an implication that we need to be loving and caring for ourselves well too.

Many pastors and people in ministry have found therapy to be a space set apart for refreshment, relief, healing, growth, and continued transformation in their lives and relationships, including their relationship with God. We would be privileged to serve you in this way.
